WHTG - GROCK Radio Morning Show Changes Yet Again

After less than a year on the air the Morning Show on G-ROCK has changed again. Since I have been traveling I have only been listening to the show on Monday mornings while driving to the airport. A couple of weeks ago Kramer was complaining that the management was upset with him for not talking about the Giants' Super Bowl win. Matt Murray will be taking over the show for now. Matt was the temporary replacement when Brian and Jen left the air.

I found out this morning when I heard Matt and Erin do a promo for their show. I am still not sure about Erin but Matt is an extreme sports fan from Vernon, NJ so I have to like to that.

Here is a release that I found.

Press Makes NJ Radio Changes - 2/14 - From Radio And Records: A couple of notable changes at Press Communications alternative WHTG/WBBO (G Rock 106.3/106.5), AC WBHX/ WWZY, country WKMK (K98.5), and oldies WHTG-AM (1410)/Monmouth-Ocean this week, as GM Wes Matejka exits. No replacement has been named. Matejka joined the company in February 2007 from the director of sales position at Entercom/Memphis. In addition, G Rock morning host Kramer also exits. Night personality/MD Matt Murray slides into mornings, joined by "Morning G" co-host Erin Vogt. Nights are being filled by part-timers

Judging by the traffic that my original post got it was probably a mistake to get rid of Brian & Jen.

Kramer was terrible. Erin is not the kind of person I want to hear in the morning. She is way too excited about everything and it seems like everything is "new" to her in the world by her reactions to everyday topics and news. Plus I can her her lips smacking and those weird noises really bother me. Matt is an all around good DJ but I think he is better in evenings.

Finally, I found out what happened. I liked Kramer. He was a real "guy". I HATED Brian and Jen - they were stupid and talked too much! When I'm driving in the morning I want to get a chance to win a prize once in a while and listen to music - that's it. I don't want to hear blabbing about nothing endlessly the way Brian and Jen did. Matt seems ok - I'm getting used to him. I could take or leave Erin - she doesn't bother me, but I don't think she adds much value either.

WHAT HAPPENED to their format now!!!??????? I loved Brian -- Jen, I didn't care for. I'm happy to hear Brian on 101.9 , WRXP.

I also liked Matt Murry and Erin. This a.m. Matt Knight was on since Murry is on vacation. Things seemed fine. This afternoon around 2 PM, I heard Spears, Womanizer -- WHAT!!!!, WHAT!!!!! WHAT!!!!

RIP G-Rock. You will be sorely missed. The music was the only reason we still listened and they ruined it....they went from the Cult to f'n Beyonce. Nothing against Beyonce, but there's a time and a place. And until today...that place was not G-ROCK. Ugh! I am now promptly removing the station from my playlist...

I just noticed that the format changed. I pushed the button and out came Britney's Womanizer. I guess that explains why they were playing everyone's request over the weekend.

I am not sure how a good a strategy that is. Maybe it will allow them to cut costs and run the radio station with a computer.

Major buzz about the format change at the following: http://theaudioperv.com/2009/01/19/rip-g-rock-radio-1063-nj/

Thank you for the link. I found it when I was searching to find out what happened. Looks like Brian Phillips made the right move. I do like the WRXP format better than GROCK. A good mix of old and new.

The problem is that WRXP does not come in clear enough in Ocean County. I just wish they hadn't made such a drastic change.

Great music, always had something good going on, worked with local animal agencys, cutting edge, one station you could always count on ,not to hear the same old crap. Leave it to some idiot in management to take a good music format, and flush it down the drain. I know I do not speak for myself when I say we will miss the tunes. I guess its time to just start downloading and make my own music format and tune out 106.3 for good. Its really too bad!!!!!

I suspect that it is all related to the economy. Advertising dollars are down every where. The new station will be playing a subscription format that does not require a DJ staff.

I really liked the local feel of the station. I hope that it all works out for them because things are rough for everyone.

I am so upset. I loved Matt and Erin in the morning and all the music. I'm really lost. Now I don't have a favorite radio station. Where did all of the dj's go? I hope you all are ok.
